Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl Contest

River Ridge Elementary School second grader, Emmie Reeves, was honored by  the National Forestry Service and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. in their annual Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl poster contest.  The two agencies sponsor a national poster contest for students grades 1-5 to stimulate appreciation for protecting the environment. Last year over 7,000 students submitted posters in the state of Georgia.  This year, Emmie’s poster was selected first in the State of Georgia for second graders.  The poster was then entered in the Deep South District for the entire southeast where she placed third.  Emmie Reeves is pictured with her art teacher, Mrs. Courtney Owen who directed the contest at River Ridge.  The school’s entry was sponsored by Spade and Trowel Garden Club.
